Uralchem Group has delivered 30,000 tonnes of potash fertilizer to Bangladesh as part of its ongoing humanitarian assistance program, the company said on January 19.

The handover took place during an official ceremony in Dhaka attended by Bangladesh’s agriculture adviser, Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Khozin, and representatives of Uralchem. The shipment, which had been stored in Latvia, was transported with logistical support from the United Nations World Food Program, which chartered the vessel. Uralchem covered all freight and related costs.

The delivery marks the company’s seventh humanitarian fertilizer donation since late 2022. In total, Uralchem has supplied about 220,000 tonnes of mineral fertilizers free of charge to countries facing acute food insecurity. Nearly 200,000 tonnes were shipped via WFP-chartered vessels from European ports to destinations including Malawi, Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and now Bangladesh.

The company said the initiative is aimed at mitigating the impact of the global food crisis and reducing the risk of crop losses in vulnerable regions. It also aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal to end hunger and improve food security.

“Mineral fertilizers are fundamental to food security as they ensure consistent and reliable crop yields,” said Dmitry Konyaev, chief executive of Uralchem JSC. “As a major global producer, we recognize our responsibility to support food security in regions most at risk. We are pleased that this humanitarian consignment has reached Bangladesh and will contribute to local agricultural production.”
