DTN acquires Canada’s Grain Discovery to expand agtech capabilities

DTN, a US-based provider of operational decision-making tools for agriculture, energy and weather-dependent industries, has acquired Grain Discovery, a Canadian agtech firm specializing in digital grain transactions, traceability, and grower relationship management. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Grain Discovery’s platform offers CRM-style tools for grain buyers, farm-level sustainability data capture, and end-to-end traceability, aiming to streamline workflows between producers, advisors and procurement teams. Its Farmer Portal connects grain originators and growers through a branded mobile app that manages bids, offers, contracts, and participation in digital sustainability programs.
The acquisition will accelerate the development of DTN Ag Hub, a digital twin of US agriculture at farm-level detail scheduled to launch in the fall. The new platform will integrate solutions for retail, grain procurement, farmers and sustainability leaders, including ethanol plants seeking information to qualify for 45Z tax credits.
“Grain buyers and producers need to have immediate access to each other in order to make real-time decisions whether they’re at their desk, in a truck, or standing in a field,” said Grey Montgomery, general manager for agriculture at DTN. “Grain Discovery accelerates our time to market for multiple DTN ag solutions, including MyDTN, AgHost, Grain Portal, and sustainability tools.”
Grain Discovery co-founder and CEO Rory O’Sullivan said joining DTN provides “brand trust and access to hundreds of customers across the US market,” as well as resources to advance traceability and AI-based tools.
DTN said current Grain Discovery customers will continue to use existing apps and tools in the near term, with expanded access to DTN insights and commercial networks rolling out over the next year.
