The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and the Japanese automobile company Pak Suzuki Motor, which operates in Pakistan, have entered into a significant agreement to collaborate on biogas technology and organic fertilizer research and development.

The agreement outlines a joint effort in several areas, including renewable energy research—specifically focusing on biogas plants and organic fertilizers—resource exchange, information sharing, and student training programs. These endeavors aim to foster innovation and enhance research, education, and community service.

Under the terms of the partnership, UAF and Pak Suzuki will collaborate on the design and development of a biogas plant that meets international standards, achieving biogas purification levels between 95% and 99%. They also plan to develop organic fertilizer facilities, produce organic fertilizer products, and establish a sales channel for these products. The collaboration will further involve students in joint projects and research collaborations in related fields, including international seminars, awareness campaigns, workshops, and conferences.

The agreement was signed by UAF’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Muhammad Sarwar Khan and Managing Director of Pak Suzuki Motor Hiroshi Kawamura. The focal persons of the agreement include the Chairman, Department of Biochemistry/ Director, Punjab Bioenergy Institute (PBI), Prof. Dr Muhammad Anjum Zia from UAF, Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales Aamir Shaffi, and Manager, Business Development Fahad Qamar from PMSC.

Managing Director of Pak Suzuki Motor Hiroshi Kawamura expressed optimism about the collaborative effort, noting the potential benefits of promoting biogas and bio-fertilizers, which could revolutionize sustainable agricultural practices in Pakistan. UAF’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Muhammad Sarwar Khan highlighted the university’s commitment to clean and green technology, mentioning the use of solar energy and the establishment of the Punjab Bioenergy Institute as part of its strategy to support biogas proliferation and environmental sustainability.

The collaborative team includes experts from UAF’s Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences and Pak Suzuki’s marketing and business development divisions, ensuring a robust exchange of knowledge and expertise crucial for the success of the initiative.
